Meet Kristy-Lee Firkin

What was your first place of employment?

My first place of employment was at KFC when I was 15, where I worked on and off for six years in many different roles. It was an interesting and very greasy role and a great learning experience and set me up with my work ethics.

What are some quirky or interesting things about you?

I have an irrational fear of sinkholes and tsunamis. Sinkholes I find intriguing and want to see one in real life but also am petrified of the idea of one and am sure this is how I will die. Tsunamis are just terrifying, and living near the beach does not do well for this fear.

How do you spend your free time?

I like to spend my free time learning to roller skate. It is a slow road as I am not very coordinated but slowly am getting much better. My husband and I also enjoy going for long walks on the weekend to try out the local cafes around town.

What made you decide to step into this career?

I have always had a love of numbers and how they fit into the world. After working in retail for the past 20 years, I decided it was time to start heading in the direction I wanted to go finally.

What’s going on in your life right now?

We have recently gotten a new puppy, so life is full trying to keep a puppy entertained and protecting things from her sharp little teeth. I had forgotten how much energy a puppy has and it’s exhausting, but I wouldn’t change a minute of it.

What makes you an asset to Precision?

I have a very bubbly personality with my own special sense of humour and can-do attitude. I have a love of learning and numbers and believe this role will be suited perfectly to that.

Who are some of your favourite musical artists?

I have a very diverse range of music loves from Tim McGraw to Eminem, but nothing will beat my love for Taylor Swift. I have seen her in concert four times and count myself as a Swifty.

What do you value most in life?

I like to keep life simple and value nothing more than spending time with family and friends. They keep me grounded and feeling whole.

What do you hope to get out of working at Precision?

I hope to gain a better understanding of the accounting world and all that is involved whilst working in a supportive and encouraging environment.

What are three pet peeves?

I am not a fan of lateness I am always on time or early. I dislike people who cannot use their manners. I think please and thank you can go a long way in common courtesy. I cannot deal with people chewing with their mouth open. I think it is because I had it drilled into me as a kid to close my mouth when eating is good manners.
